One of our team members came across this fascinating article the other day, and it got us thinking. Most people don’t consider the link between sugar free drinks, candies and other treats and tooth decay and damage, but they really should. It’s easy to feel like these “sugar free” products give us a free pass, that we can consume as many as we want, whenever we want. They’re zero calories, after all. As it turns out, that’s not really the case — and actually, these products can be really damaging to your oral health.

Use of a Water Flosser for Interdental Cleaning
December 11, 2011
Interdental cleaning is an important part of a patient’s personal oral care regimen. Water flossers, also known as oral irrigators (WaterPik), can play a vital, effective role in interdental hygiene. Evidence has shown a significant reduction in plaque biofilm from tooth surfaces and the reduction of subgingival pathogenic bacteria from pockets as deep as 6 millimeters with the use of water flossing. In addition, water flossers have shown to reduce gingivitis, bleeding, probing pocket depth, and tartar buildup related to dental implants, porcelain veneers, crowns, orthodontics, as well as natural teeth. The FAU Pre-Dental Mentorship Program
October 22, 2011
Many FAU Pre-Dental students are gaining the benefit of learning tehniques in microscope enhanced dentistry prior to entering dental school. My involvement in developing this program at FAU came from being an FAU alum, as well as my desire and commitment to teach high quality dental techniques. Class size is kept small to give the students full benefit of active learning. Groups of six students rotate through the program on a monthly basis accumulating 6 hours of dental lecture and hands-on experience. Many students are encouraged to journey off campus to shadow in private dental offices. Visit and like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Dr-Gerard-Cuomo/205876919449107
