Patient Dental Comforts & Technology at Our Dental Office
We understand that not everyone likes visiting the dentist. Our Boca Raton dentistry team works with patients to develop trusting relationships, and provide a peaceful, calming environment. However, if you’re fearful or need a little extra help relaxing, please talk with Dr. Cuomo about dental sedation options. We want to ensure your complete comfort and relaxation during treatment.
Oral sedation is the use of safe, widely-prescribed drugs that diminish anxiety and help patients relax. If you’re interested in oral sedation, Dr. Cuomo selects appropriate anti-anxiety medications for you to take before your appointment. A friend or family member needs to drive you to and from your dental appointment as the effects of oral sedation are long lasting. Patients who use oral conscious sedation are able to return to their daily routine within eight hours. Oral conscious sedation significantly diminishes discomfort during treatment time, reduces healing time, and best of all, most patients experience an amnesiac effect and do not remember their treatment.
Nitrous oxide enhances comfort, relieves anxiety, and diminishes pain sensation. Commonly known as “laughing gas,” it is one of the safest anti-anxiety agents available in our Boca Raton dental office. It can be used for cosmetic and restorative dental procedures, as well as for hygiene visits if patients have sensitive teeth, gums, or gag reflex. Nitrous oxide is also extremely helpful for patients needing impressions for tooth whitening, crown and bridgework, and occlusal guards. Nitrous oxide’s effects are completely diminished within a few minutes, allowing patients to drive themselves to and from their appointment. All patients are candidates for nitrous oxide therapy and dosage can be safely adjusted based on the level of anxiety or response to the medication. Rather than providing laughter as the nickname implies, nitrous oxide has a euphoric effect.
Combined Oral Conscious & Nitrous Oxide Sedation
For patients with severe apprehension, nitrous oxide can be used in conjunction with oral medication to produce a deeper level of sedation and an appropriate level of relaxation and comfort.
Minimally Invasive Dentistry
Your smile is a beautiful thing, even if it’s not perfect! Each tooth is a living entity and even though teeth look simple, their inner structure is complex. Every tooth serves a purpose and the loss of even a small portion of your natural tooth can affect the aesthetics and function of your entire smile. For that reason, Dr. Cuomo takes a conservative approach to dentistry, using treatment and procedures that conserve natural tooth structure. You can be assured, if your personalized treatment calls for a restoration, Dr. Cuomo will use minimally invasive techniques, aided by the use of microscope enhanced dentistry.
Microscope Enhanced Dentistry
One of the most significant innovations in dentistry is the use of high-powered microscopes for diagnosis and treatment. With the ability to magnify the view of dental structures from three to twenty times, Dr. Cuomo uses microscope enhanced dentistry to precisely detect oral health problems and better execute restorative and cosmetic treatments. Because all patients deserve the best dental care, Dr. Cuomo offers microscope enhanced dentistry to every patient. Each of his operatories and labs are equipped with microscopes.
Digital X-rays and Sensors
Taking x-rays with a sensor that creates a digital image is a win-win for patients and your South Florida dentist and team. Digital x-rays utilize 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays, and the ability to immediately view the details of your oral health from any office computer monitor and share the results with you chairside have transformed the way modern dental practices function.
Every microscope is equipped with a camera allowing Dr. Cuomo to capture high-definition digital images of your mouth. Using these images, he can show you areas of concern and recommend treatment. Dr. Cuomo firmly believes that an educated patient is better equipped to make decisions regarding oral health which is why microscope cameras are used as part of the treatment planning process.
Computers & Monitors
Computers are part of daily life, and an integral part of Dr. Cuomo's Boca Raton, FL dental practice. We use computers to schedule and track appointments, record treatment planning, and file insurance claims. They also capture, store, and display x-ray images and photographs. Chairside computer monitors allow Dr. Cuomo and his team to view images with patients, so they become actively involved in their oral health and recommended treatment.
Headphones & Video Eyewear
Headphones and video eyewear are available and can be plugged into your iPod, MP3 player, etc. This adds another level of relaxation for patients. Imagine watching a great movie or listening to your favorite music during dental treatment.
Video eyewear can be used by patients who would like to watch their dental exam or treatment in real time. Everything that Dr. Cuomo sees through his microscope can be viewed while wearing the video eyewear. You can take a virtual tour of your mouth, seeing teeth, mouth, and gums exactly as Dr. Cuomo sees them. If you prefer to use the video eyewear to watch a movie during treatment, just bring your video device and we can plug the eyewear into it.
Doppler analysis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) provides Dr. Cuomo with reliable information that aids in the detection, analysis, and evaluation of TMJ Dysfunction. By listening carefully, Dr. Cuomo determines the condition of the jaw joint. Doppler is just one of the many tools used to make sure your smile is as healthy as it is beautiful.
CAD CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is an area of dentistry which utilizes current technologies to produce different types of restorations including crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, fixed bridges, dental implant restorations, and orthodontic appliances. Typically, the CAD CAM software sends digital data to a milling chamber that carves a solid block of porcelain into a custom dental restoration. Treatment time is reduced greatly using this technology.
Cone Beam CT
A Cone Beam CT scan generates a 3 dimensional image of the jaw and facial structures with minimal radiation exposure. Provided by a specialist, this image is used by Dr. Cuomo to effectively plan complex, multi-disciplinary restorative treatment cases.
To better serve the patients at Dr. Cuomo's Boca Raton dental practice, our staff use radio communication. Radio communication allows us to pass information to others in the office quickly, and prevents having to leave the room during dental visits.
Dr. Cuomo and his team control bacterial contamination through a variety of methods—cold sterilization, heat and steam sterilization, and highly concentrated sprays, wipes, and solutions.
